Day 12 - Seattle, WA, USA
(Disembark) Seattle offers a blend of urban sophistication, cultural attractions and natural beauty, making it a popular start or end point for Alaska cruises. The city is rich in concert halls, art galleries, museums, craft beer and coffee culture. Iconic sights include the Space Needle in lower Queen Anne, an observation tower with a revolving glass floor and 360-degree city views, and Pike Place Market, often called the Soul of Seattle, which spans nine acres in historic downtown and features fresh produce, artisan goods and independent restaurants. Mount Rainier, located 68 miles southeast of the city, is a 14,410-foot active volcano within Mount Rainier National Park, known for its lakes, glaciers and wildflower meadows. Visitors can stop by the worlds first Starbucks at 1912 Pike Place, which preserves original floors, fixtures and counters, explore the Museum of Pop Culture near the Space Needle with its immersive exhibits and iconic artifacts, or visit Amazons Spheres by advance registration for a unique indoor garden experience featuring hundreds of thousands of plant species across three striking domes. Seattle is well known for fresh seafood including Copper River salmon, oysters and clam chowder, while Asian cuisine thrives, particularly in the Chinatown International District with sushi, teriyaki, Vietnamese and Filipino dishes. Dining with a view is available at Atmos Cafe and wine bar atop the Space Needle and throughout Pike Place Market. Shopping ranges from independent boutiques in Ballard to major national and international brands in downtown and University District malls, with Pike Place Market offering handmade jewellery, pottery, candles and artisan chocolates. Getting around is easy with King County Metro Transit buses, Link Light Rail, the Streetcar system and the Seattle Center Monorail, which connects downtown Westlake Center to Seattle Center in just two minutes. Cruise ships dock at either Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66 or Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91, both offering on-site parking, access to Link Light Rail to Seattle Airport and complimentary luggage transfer services for domestic flights. The local currency is the US Dollar, with ATMs and card payments widely accepted. Seattle averages around 149 rainy days per year, mainly between October and March, while June through September are the warmest months, with average highs around 22 degrees Celsius, making light layers and weatherproof clothing a good choice.
